4.1 General Sharpening with Tormek T-8
The Tormek T-8 is a water-cooled system, which means the grinding wheel runs in a water bath. This prevents the tool from overheating and losing its hardness. Always use the appropriate jig for your tool to maintain a consistent angle and achieve optimal sharpness.
Use the WM-200 AngleMaster to set the correct sharpening angle. The SP-650 Stone Grader can be used to change the grit of the grinding wheel from coarse to fine, allowing for both efficient grinding and fine honing.
4.2 DBS-22 Drill Bit Sharpener Attachment
The DBS-22 attachment allows you to sharpen drill bits with high precision, creating a 4-facet point that prevents walking and reduces thrust force. It also minimizes heat development, extending the life of your drill bits.
- Set the distance of the universal support from the stone using the hole in the setting template.
- Mount the base plate.
- Mount the drill bit in the holder.
- Set the protrusion with the measuring stop on the guide.
- Carefully align the cutting edges so they are parallel with the horizontal lines. A magnifier is supplied for smaller drill bits.
- Start by sharpening the primary facets (P). Position the drill holder so the lug rests on the primary stop.
- Feed until the drill bit touches the stone.
- Set the cutting depth: one turn with the setting screw is equal to half a millimeter in cutting depth. Lock with the locking nut.
- Grind the primary facets. Soon you will hear when the grinding sound subsides and the edge is ground.
- Turn the jig around and sharpen the other side in the same way.
- Now, grind the secondary facets (S). Move the drill holder to the next stop marked S.
- Tilt the base until the drill bit touches the grindstone and lock.
- Start by setting the cutting depth by one and a half turns.
- Grind the secondary facets.
- Hone away any burr on the profiled leather honing wheels.
4.3 RB-180 Rotating Base
The RB-180 Rotating Base allows you to easily rotate the entire T-8 machine. This is particularly useful when switching between sharpening on the grinding wheel and honing on the leather honing wheel, or when needing to access different sides of the machine for various sharpening tasks.
